24 Hour Fitness makes the easy case easy and the expensive case hard. If you're a plain month-to-month member, you can cancel from My Account on the website in a few minutes — but only after the site dangles "30% off your next 3 months' dues" to talk you out of it. The real friction lands on people who signed a limited-term or prepaid (often 12-month) plan: the online cancel button stops working for them and the site routes them to "come see a team member in club." On top of dues, the company bills a separate Annual Fee (around $59.99, waived in HI and NV) that catches people off guard, and its policy is "no refunds" outside narrow auto-renewal terms, so a mistimed click means one more full charge. Worst of all, the 24GO "Digital" app is billed through Apple or Google and survives a gym cancellation entirely — thousands of people cancel the gym and keep paying for the app without realizing it.

    Decide which thing you are cancelling. A regular gym membership is cancelled through 24hourfitness.com. The 24GO / '24 Hour Fitness Digital' app subscription is billed separately and must be cancelled in the Apple App Store or Google Play (see FAQ). Cancelling one does not cancel the other.

    For a gym membership, go to https://www.24hourfitness.com/members/cancel and sign in to My Account. The page also lives at /myaccount/membership.html#/cancel/.

    If you have a standard Monthly Payment membership, follow the prompts to cancel. You will be shown a retention offer of '30% Off Your Next 3 Months' Dues' before the cancel completes.

    Watch outDeclining the offer is the path to actually cancelling. The discount only resets the billing relationship; it does not cancel you. Click through past it.

    Capture proof: screenshot the confirmation screen and save any confirmation email with a date and confirmation/reference number. 24 Hour Fitness keeps billing through the current cycle, so you may still see one more charge.

    Watch outThere are no prorated refunds ('no refunds except as otherwise provided in the Yearly Auto-Renewal agreement'). Cancel before your next bill date, not after.

    If you have a limited-term or prepaid membership (e.g. a 12-month commitment), the online button will not finish the cancellation. The site says to 'come see a team member in club or contact us.' Go to your home club's front desk, ask for a cancellation form, and get a signed/dated copy.

    Watch out1-866-308-8179 is also reported as the number for 24 Hour Fitness's financial/collections department, so expect retention or balance questions. Get a confirmation number and the rep's name in writing.

Refund policy

No refunds except as otherwise provided in the terms of the Yearly Auto-Renewal agreement(s). Cancellation stops future billing but the current period and the Annual Fee are not prorated or refunded.

What to do if they refuse to cancel

If 24 Hour Fitness keeps billing you after you cancelled, escalate in this order. First, send a certified-mail letter to P.O. Box 787, Carlsbad, CA 92018 restating your cancellation date and demanding the charges stop, and attach your confirmation number or front-desk receipt. Second, dispute the charges with your bank or card issuer as an unauthorized/continued recurring charge — your dated cancellation proof (screenshot, confirmation email, or certified-mail receipt) is what wins these. If the pull was debit/ACH, you can also revoke the EFT authorization in writing with your bank. Third, file a complaint with the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov (recurring-billing and 'negative option' cancellations are an active FTC enforcement area). Fourth, file with your State Attorney General — California (oag.ca.gov) is especially relevant since 24 Hour Fitness is CA-based and CA's Automatic Renewal Law requires an easy online cancel path; NY and VT residents have similar protections.
