Methodology
How we verify every cancellation guide
Every page on PageGuides goes through the same process. Here it is, in full transparency.
Step 1 — Source identification
We find the company's official cancellation page or policy by searching their help center, support documentation, and terms of service. We never rely on third-party blogs or aggregators for the URL itself.
Step 2 — Personal verification
Where possible, we test the cancellation flow on a real account. Where this isn't feasible (for example, a gym requires in-person), we document the flow from the company's own published instructions, cross-referenced with current user reports.
Step 3 — Screenshots
Every step in the flow gets a screenshot from the official UI. Screenshots are reduced in size and used under fair use for instructional purposes.
Step 4 — Dark-pattern cross-check
We check the FTC's complaints database and Better Business Bureau filings for known dark patterns associated with the company. These are listed in the "What to do if they refuse" section of each guide.
Step 5 — Phone and email verification
Support phone numbers are verified by calling them (a 30-second check that the line works and routes correctly). Support emails are verified by inspecting the company's official contact page.
Step 6 — Publication & dating
Every page is dated with its last_verified_at timestamp and signed by the verifier. The date is shown publicly at the top of every guide.
Step 7 — Re-audit every 90 days
All published guides are reviewed every 90 days. Companies change their cancellation flows often. When we find a change, the page is updated and the change is logged in the publicly visible update history at the bottom of the guide.
Step 8 — Correction policy
Found an error? Email us. We respond within 7 days. Every correction is added to the public update log on the relevant page — including what was wrong, what was changed, and when.
What we do NOT do
- We don't accept payment from companies to be listed, rated, or removed.
- We don't hide negative information about companies that pay affiliate commissions.
- We don't make up author credentials or pretend to be lawyers.
- We don't republish content from other sites.
