How to Cancel Amazon Prime Video in 2026
A standalone Prime Video subscription cancels in a few clicks from the Your Account tab, but the much larger group of people who get Prime Video bundled inside an Amazon Prime membership must run Amazon's multi-step "End Membership" flow — the same flow the FTC found deceptive in its Sept 2025 $2.5B settlement (four pages, six clicks, repeated retention offers). Add-ons billed through Apple, Google, or Roku cannot be cancelled on Amazon at all and require a separate cancellation at the app store, which traps many users.

If you hit a wall
Why this is harder than it should be
Cancelling Amazon Prime Video is harder than it should be because there is no single "Prime Video" you might be paying for. You could have a standalone Prime Video subscription, Prime Video bundled inside a full Amazon Prime membership, or one of dozens of Channel add-ons (Paramount+, STARZ, MGM+) — and each cancels in a different place. The bundled-Prime path is the notorious one: in September 2025 Amazon agreed to a $2.5 billion FTC settlement after regulators found its "Iliad Flow" cancellation deliberately buried the exit behind roughly four pages, six clicks, and a wall of save-offers, while sign-up took a single click. People also get burned by third-party billing: if you subscribed through Apple, Google, Roku, or a mobile carrier, the End Subscription button simply isn't there and Amazon points you elsewhere. And because cancelling never refunds the current period unless you've used zero benefits, many discover the timing rules only after they've clicked through everything.
Step-by-step

Decide which subscription you actually have. A standalone Prime Video subscription (about $8.99/mo) cancels on Prime Video itself. If Prime Video came bundled with a full Amazon Prime membership ($14.99/mo or $139/yr), you must cancel the Prime membership instead — see step 5. Channel add-ons like Paramount+, STARZ or MGM+ are cancelled separately (step 7).
Watch outCancelling standalone Prime Video does NOT cancel an Amazon Prime membership, and vice versa. Many people cancel one and keep getting billed for the other. - 02
For a standalone Prime Video subscription: go to https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/settings/your-account (or open primevideo.com, click your profile name top-right, choose Account & Settings, then the Your Account tab) and sign in.
Watch outIf you signed up on a phone through your mobile carrier, Apple, Google, or Roku, there will be no End Subscription button here — Amazon will tell you to contact the third party (see step 6). - 03
Under the Your Account section, select End Subscription (sometimes shown as Cancel Subscription / End Membership).
Watch outYou will be shown offers and warnings before the real cancel button. Keep choosing the option that continues to cancel, not the one that keeps the subscription. - 04
Confirm. The page should show your access end date — you keep watching until then and are not charged again. Note that date and check for a confirmation email.
Watch outCancelling does not refund past charges. A refund only applies if you have not used any benefit since your last charge (see FAQ). - 05
If Prime Video is part of an Amazon Prime membership: on desktop go to amazon.com, hover Accounts & Lists, choose Prime Membership, then hover Manage Membership and click End Membership. On mobile, open the Amazon Shopping app, tap the Profile icon, Manage Prime Membership, the Manage Membership menu, then End Membership.
Watch outThis is the flow the FTC called the 'Iliad Flow.' Expect roughly four screens with discount offers and 'are you sure?' prompts. Click Continue to Cancel / End on [date] each time until you see a final cancellation confirmation. - 06
If you pay through a third party (Apple App Store, Google Play, Roku, or a mobile carrier), cancel in that platform's subscription settings instead — Amazon cannot stop that billing.
Watch outFor Apple billing you must cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date or you will still be charged for the next period. - 07
To cancel a Prime Video Channel add-on (Paramount+, STARZ, MGM+, etc.): open Account & Settings, select Subscriptions from the top menu, find the add-on, select Unsubscribe and confirm.
Watch outEach channel is a separate subscription with its own renewal date; cancelling Prime or Prime Video does not stop active channel charges. - 08
Optional: call Amazon customer service (commonly listed as 1-888-280-4331, 24/7) if the online button is missing or you want a human to confirm the cancellation and any refund.
Watch outPhone agents may pitch a retention discount before cancelling; ask for written/email confirmation of the cancellation and end date.
Refund policy
No refund for past charges on simple cancellation. Full refund of the current period only if no Prime benefit has been used since the latest charge. For Prime memberships, a full refund is available if you cancel within 3 business days of a paid signup or trial-to-paid conversion (minus the value of benefits used in that window). Refunds process in 3–5 business days. Third-party (Apple/Google/Roku) charges are refunded only through that platform.
Free trial trap
Prime/Prime Video free trials auto-convert to paid at the end of the trial with no second opt-in. To avoid a charge, cancel before the trial end date (the access end date shown at signup); for Apple-billed trials you must cancel at least 24 hours before renewal. Cancelling during the trial still lets you watch until the trial ends.
What to do if they refuse to cancel
If Amazon refuses to cancel, keeps billing you, or denies a refund you believe you're owed: - **Get it in writing.** Use online chat or email so you have a timestamped record, and screenshot the confirmation/end-date screen. - **Check the FTC settlement.** If you were enrolled in Prime between roughly June 2019 and June 2025, you may be owed an automatic refund (up to ~$51) under the 2025 $2.5B FTC settlement — no claim form needed for many consumers. Watch for an official Amazon/FTC notice and never pay a "fee" to claim it. - **Dispute the charge.** If billing continues after a confirmed cancellation, contact your bank or card issuer and request a chargeback for the unauthorized renewal; provide your cancellation screenshot/email. - **Report it.** File with the FTC at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov — recurring-charge and hard-to-cancel complaints fall squarely under the ROSCA rules Amazon was already found to have violated. - **Use your state AG.** California, New York, and Vermont have specific auto-renewal/"click-to-cancel" laws; file with your State Attorney General's consumer protection division if you're in one of those states (or any state) and Amazon won't stop charging you. - **Third-party billing:** if you were billed through Apple/Google/Roku, dispute through that store's refund process as well — Amazon genuinely cannot reverse those charges.
